PLAYBACK STORYTELLING IMPROV
Playback is a form of improvisational theater where we play back stories told by the audience. People in the audience engage in a dialogue with the Facilitator about a moment or event in their life and the Players draw on different structured improv formats to bring the Teller’s story to life. This type of theater is often used to provide a forum for the exchange of diverse experiences and help foster dialogue around social issues. It is a fun and powerful experience that celebrates individual’s stories and fosters community-building, creativity and healing.
In this workshop, participants will learn and work with a set of Forms--developed by Playback’s original co-founders, Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas -- that are used to enact various types of stories. Forms may include short scenes, monologues, singing, movement, and musical accompaniment. No prior experience necessary -- only a willingness to show up and be open to self-expression!
Circle of Sparks Playback Theater Project is a community of storytellers, actors, improvisers, writers, therapists, and community members who have practiced and performed together since 2019. Led by Elaine Molinaro, theater director/producer, the company has performed for women's groups, healthcare workers, and at senior centers, as well as open public shows engaging the community around topics such as climate change or connecting across differences.
